What happens when the body’s defence system turns against its own components?
(This article appeared in Star Health on January 17, 2010)
SUFFERERS of lupus, eczema, psoriasis, allergy dermatitis, psoriatic arthritis, and rheumatoid arthritis (RA) have different, yet related, conditions. This article will explain how diseases that are so different share a common thread.
In order to do this, you need to understand the origin of these diseases.
Each is a chronic disease that manifests as inflammation of a particular organ. Treatment of these diseases is typically focused on relieving the symptoms of the affected organs, e.g. skin and joints.
It may surprise some of you to learn that the symptoms of skin rash, skin plaques, skin lesion, inflamed joints, and frozen shoulders are actually related and have something in common.
Psoriasis is thought to be an autoimmune disorder. Each of the diseases listed occurs as a result of hypersensitivity of the human immune system to external substances (allergies, dermatitis, and eczema) or reaction to normal body tissues (psoriasis, lupus, and RA).
What is the immune system?

Finding Alternative Therapy for Psoriasis
This is the fourth installment in the ongoing series of articles on “The Heartbreak of Psoriasis”.
Psoriasis (sore-EYE-ah-sis) is a medical condition that occurs when skin cells grow too quickly. Faulty signals in the immune system cause new skin cells to form in days rather than weeks. The body does not shed these excess skin cells, so the cells pile up on the surface of the skin and lesions form.
Psoriasis is complex, scientists are still studying what happens when psoriasis develops. We know that the person’s immune system and genes play key roles. In studying the immune system, scientists discovered that when a person has psoriasis, the T cells (a type of white blood cell that fights unwanted invaders such as bacteria and viruses) mistakenly trigger a reaction in the skin cells. This is why you may hear psoriasis referred to as a “T cell-mediated disease”, as we discussed this in our previous article.
Current treatment for psoriasis still places strong emphasis on attacking the symptoms (skin) rather than the cause (immune system). One of the most widely adopted treatment for psoriasis is to use steroids.

Did Japanese Scientists Really Kill A(H1N1) Virus?
WOW!!!
We underestimated the interest level of our readers in the detailed scientific content of our postings. Our pageviews spiked following this article we posted 4 days ago.
We received emails from doctors, pharmacists and the general public asking for verification (and source) that the reported research quoted in our posting was true and not a hoax. Did the Japanese scientists really kill the A(H1N1) virus with hydroxytyrosol (HT)?
The best way we can clear this, is to provide you a download link of the paper we referred to HERE.
We have a scientific team in our company actively monitors all ongoing research around the world on Hydroxytyrosol (HT), the active ingredient in OLIVENOL livin’. Our fascination with HT goes beyond just a commercial interest. In fact, we are more motivated to discover and document the extent of therapeutic effect this “miracle” molecule God has given us through the olive fruit.
To date, there are well established scientific, medical and clinical evidence that HT plays a positive role in:
- cardiovascular system – inhibits LDL oxidation, prevent and reverse arthereosclerosis
- controlling arthritic indications – anti-inflammatory, cartilage regeneration, improve mobility, pain relief
- skin health – controlling psoriasis indications, clearing eczema and acne, improve moisture retention for healthy skin
- modulate immune system – reduce allergic effect, anti viral infection, quicker recovery from illness, control autoimmune induced indications
- anti aging – increase total glutathione status in body
- anti-cancer effect – induce cell apoptosis
Please read the related articles to link to back to the relevant research and publications on the multi effect of HT. We will continue to add to this knowledge base on OLIVES – one of nature’s best kept secret.
Eczema – Soothing A Mother’s Heartbreak
(An abridged version of this article appeared in the Star Special, Parenting, pg 10 on July 23, 2009 under the title “Combating Eczema Naturally with Olive Juice”)
We received this letter from Michelle, sharing a very personal story…
“My four year old son has very serious eczema around his neck area. I first noticed it when he was about six months old. Initially, I discounted it as just “one of those things” (like nappy rash) that all babies would have. He grew out of his nappy rash by the time we celebrated his first birthday.
At about the same time, the rashes on his neck became more serious. I applied prescription steroid cream on him to stop it from spreading and to lessen the itchiness. This was a repeated cycle for the last three years. After each round of relief, it is followed by another episode of more nasty flare. At one point, almost 80% of the visible neck area of my son had wet, itchy and painful flaring rash.
The most heartbreaking thing I had to endure was my husband’s decision to tie up my boy’s hands at night to stop him from scratching himself. There is no word to describe the agony of this helpless mother and powerless wife.
I am glad those days are now over. A family friend who happened to be a doctor recommended us to try OLIVENOL, an organic olive juice extract. I am grateful he did.
The improvements were visible after the first week. His rashes became less red and were no longer oozing wet. After two months, there were still some eczema patch on his neck but he is no longer troubled by the itch. When the scratching stopped, the healing process accelerated.
I am glad we found a solution that worked for my son. Thank you.”
Michelle, 30, Kulai.
Michelle’s story although often untold, is an experience that is not unique. If you ask any parent group with young children, the majority of them will tell you their children suffer from ezcema, “skin allergy” or some symptoms of dermatitis. Continue reading Eczema – Soothing A Mother’s Heartbreak
The Heartbreak of Psoriasis – Does Nature Have An Answer?

The Heartbreak of Psoriasis
Psoriasis is probably one of the longest known illnesses of humans and simultaneously one of the most misunderstood. It is a chronic, non-contagious autoimmune disease which affects the skin and joints. It commonly causes red scaly patches to appear on the skin. The scaly patches caused by psoriasis, called psoriatic plaques, are areas of inflammation and excessive skin production.
Psoriasis is a lifelong condition. There is currently no cure but various treatments can help to control the symptoms. Many of the most effective agents used to treat severe psoriasis carry an increased risk of significant morbidity including skin cancers, lymphoma and liver disease.
However, the majority of people’s experience of psoriasis is that of minor localized patches, particularly on the elbows and knees, which can be treated with topical medication. Psoriasis can get worse over time but it is not possible to predict who will go on to develop extensive psoriasis or those in whom the disease may appear to vanish. Individuals will often experience flares and remissions throughout their lives. Controlling the signs and symptoms typically requires lifelong therapy.
The cause of psoriasis is not fully understood. There are two main hypotheses. The first considers psoriasis as primarily a disorder of excessive growth and reproduction of skin cells. The problem is simply seen as a fault of the epidermis and its keratinocytes (skin stem cells).

A(H1N1): Six Schools Are Closed (so far)
Like toppling bowling pins, one school after another are been told to close. It looks like the we have failed to contain the transmission of this disease within our borders.
It was only a few hours ago, someone told me about SM Damansara Utama affected.
At the time of writing, the number of schools affected stands at 6. If these 6 schools are affected, what makes the other schools so special to escape this? The question is how soon and how many more are going to follow.
A H1N1: SRK Assunta 2 closed for a week Update
By MAZWIN NIK ANIS and CHRISTINA TAN
PUTRAJAYA: SRK Assunta 2 in Petaling Jaya has been told to close for a week from Monday following a locally transmitted case of Influenza A H1N1 being detected in the school, making it the second school to close due to the disease.
Over the weekend, we posted this article on some latest breakthrough by a Japanese team of scientists. I hope all the good work in this area is accelerated and a permanent solution found before situation gets worse.
Stay smart, stay healthy! Go here to read our first article on prevention of viral-infection (Hand Foot and Mouth Disease).
Protecting Against Swine Flu From the Inside
The world in on high alert and fearful of the possibility of a pandemic flu caused by an unknown virus A(H1N1). Whilst common sense protection is absolutely necessary, we must be extra vigilant to do everything possible to protect ourselves and our loved ones from infection. (Note: Watch the Feature Video on our home page to learn the basic precautionary steps we should all take). You can also watch the video >> HERE <<
We should stock up on anti-infection cleaning gel and make it a habit to clean our hands more frequently. Little children and immobile older folks are particularly vulnerable to infection due to their under developed immune system (in the case of children) and naturally weakening immune system (in the case of old people).
Whilst it is important to take care of the external factors (washing, cleaning, avoiding etc) to prevent Swine Flu infection, it is perhaps more important that the vulnerable groups such as children and older people, take extra effort to boost their immune system to fight off infection in the first place.
The extra precaution a parent can take is make sure their children, particularly those who are prone to catching cough, cold and fever, is equipped with infection fighting supplement In this respect, let us share with you this letter we received from a pharmacist on how one of her child avoided the Hand Foot and Mouth viral infection several months ago:
I am a busy working mum of four kids. I worked as a pharmacist and I came upon this new product called Olivenol in my shop. Yuni, my third child who is 5 years old have been suffering from eczema and like any other mum, I have been seeking various remedies to help her. My journey has often been frustrating as I find myself resorting to using steroids on the troubled spots to ease the itchiness.
I started Yuni on Olivenol and within a month, I could see a vast improvement in her condition. To my great relief and joy, the troubled patches cleared up! At about the same time, hand foot and mouth virus was going around and to my dismay, my kids caught the virus too. But one surprising and unexpected thing is Yuni stayed healthy while her three siblings came down with HFM*.
I believe that taking Olivenol has boost up her immune system and caused her to be more resistant to sickness. Until today, I observe that Yuni is healthier than before she started on Olivenol. On the rare occasions that she fall sick, her recovery period is much shorted than before.
As a working mum of four kids, I am dependent on Olivenol to keep my kids strong and healthy.
Noly, Johor
No parent can afford to ignore their child’s weak immune system in this period of uncertainty. If Noly’s experience with Yuni is anything to go by, it serves as a strong indication on how OLIVENOL may also help your child.
Older folks with depleted immune defense mechanism tend to catch infections easily. Medical scientist have traced the weak immune system of older people to the declining ability for the body to produce glutathione. The presence of glutathione is required to maintain the normal function of the immune system. It is known to play a critical role in the multiplication of lymphocytes (the cells that mediate specific immunity) which occurs in the development of an effective immune response.
Furthermore, the cells of the immune system produce many oxiradicals as a result of their normal functioning, resulting in a need for higher concentrations of antioxidants than most cells. Glutathione plays a crucial role in fulfilling this requirement. To read the abstract of this publication, follow this LINK
