Osteoarthritis (OA), also known as degenerative joint disease, is the most common form of arthritis. It is characterized by the breakdown and eventual loss of the cartilage in joints, and it is often caused by “wear and tear”. Women usually develop it after the age of 45.

Lupus is categorised as an autoimmune disorder. Its symptoms, like in other autoimmune diseases, tend to flare up and recede.

So what is psoriasis?

Psoriasis is an unceasing skin condition in which patches of skin anywhere on your body become red, flaky, scaly, and itchy. Between 1% and 3% of people in the world suffer from psoriasis. The most common type of psoriasis is called chronic plaque psoriasis.

The normal skin cell life cycle is about 30 days, whereas in a person who has a psoriasis, the skin cell life cycle is only 3 to 6 days! This is because the T-cells (a type of white blood cell, integral part of the immune system) attack the skin cells, causing them to develop at a much faster rate. This excess skin has nowhere to go but to the surface, resulting in the scaly rash-like appearance on the skin.

So what is a good scalp psoriasis treatment?

Gels, lotions, and other solutions are good to use a scalp psoriasis treatment, since they are easier to apply to affected areas than ointments and creams. Ointments and creams tend to leave an oily appearance to and are harder to wash out of the hair too, so try to stay away from them.

Michelle’s story although often untold, is an experience that is not unique. If you ask any parent group with young children, the majority of them will tell you their children suffer from ezcema, “skin allergy” or some symptoms of dermatitis. Dermatitis is the English word that means inflammation of the skin, and it comes from Greek words which refer to something that is boiling over. These inflammations in most instances show up as small red bumps or fluid filled blisters on the skin, and accounts for up to 20 percent of all visits to the dermatologist.

Inflammation is the cause of the itching that is associated with eczema. It is caused when a person with a susceptible immune system is exposed to irritants that set it off. These irritants are widespread and numerous and are sometimes not that easily defined or “found out” to be a source of the problem.

The way inflammation works is that as it increases, it promotes more and more itching. If the itch is scratched, the inflammation becomes even more progressively worse, and the itch scratch cycle of eczema is set in motion until it is interrupted.

Just like Michelle, parents go through sleepless nights and heartbreaking days when they are unable to help their eczema stricken child.
