The Truth About Arthritis
When you hear the word “arthritis”, one of the first things to note is that it is not a single disease per se. There are actually more than 100 types of diseases that are classified under the term “arthritis”. The same applies to the term “rheumatic disease”.
Also, arthritis and rheumatism are two separate groups of diseases. Arthritis refers to diseases or damage affecting the joints, while rheumatism is any pain in or around the bones, joints and muscles. Rheumatic disease, on the other hand, is a catch-all terms that covers all types of rheumatism and arthritis.
“It’s just an ache I have”
Arthritis should not be dismissed lightly, as some forms can cause serious damage to joints and organs. Rheumatoid arthritis, for example, can result in inflammation of the joints and the damage is irreversible.
“Only women are affected by arthritis”
This is a common misconception due to the higher incidence of arthritis (particularly osteoarthritis) among women. In fact, about 50% of men aged 65 and above also suffer from osteoarthritis. Another form of arthritis, known as ankylosing spondylitis, which affect the spine, is also more common in young men than in young women.
“It’s an old-age disease”
It is true that some types of arthritis affect mainly older people. For example, rheumatoid arthritis occurs mostly in those aged 40 – 60. Nonetheless, it does not mean that younger people are not susceptible. For example, juvenile rheumatoid arthritis causes joint inflammation in children under the age of 16, while ankylosing spondylitis commonly occurs in those between the ages of 16 and 40.
“Over-the-counter medications are enough for arthritic pain”
If only it were as simple as that! Many people do take over-the-counter (OTC) medication for arthritic pain. Although OTC drugs may provide some relief, they are not always recommended. Certain forms of arthritis, if left untreated by a doctor, can worsen and eventually lead to severe pain, joint damage and immobility.
“Nothing can be done to treat arthritis”
While it is true that there is currently no cure for arthritis, this does not mean that a patient has to suffer in silence. There are many new treatment options, including surgery, available to reduce pain and prevent further damage to joints, thus improving a person’s quality of life.
“Arthritis is caused by poor food choices”
There is no evidence that food choices have any effect on arthritis, although some people do notice that certain food cause allergies which, in turn, worsen their symptoms. Since being overweight puts added pressure on the joints and aggravates arthritis, maintaining a healthy diet and an appropriate weight has more influence on arthritic symptoms than food choices.
“My symptoms are worse on a rainy day”
You may have heard complaints from arthritic patients that cold weather increases their pain. Warmer weather may make a person feel better, but it is not a cure for arthritis nor can it prevent the development or progression of the condition.

Hey Sisters, Watch Out for Arthritis!
Did you know that 3 out of 5 arthritis patients are women? Statistics show that arthritis strikes women more often than man, and several of the more common forms are more prevalent in women.
Osteoarthritis (OA), also known as degenerative joint disease, is the most common form of arthritis. It is characterized by the breakdown and eventual loss of the cartilage in joints, and it is often caused by “wear and tear”. Women usually develop it after the age of 45.
Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is another common form of arthritis which usually strikes women between the ages of 25 to 50. It is an autoimmune disease that causes chronic inflammation of the joints and other organs.
Patients with arthritis usually suffer from pain, stiffness and swelling at joints, which causes limitations in daily living activities and overall diminution in quality of life. As the condition becomes more severe, symptoms may include a total loss of function in the affected joints.

The Agony of Arthritis – Stopping Chronic Pain at Its Roots
In our continuing series of The Agony of Arthritis – My Untold Stories, we hear story number 4 from Ms Chris Ng, who shared with us the experience of her mother who had suffered chronic pain on her fingers for more than 10 years.
My mother Julie ( 73 years old) was in her early 60s when she started having pain in her fingers. It started with a nagging pain occasionally, but after a while, the pain became quite persistent and constant. The joints on her fingers started to swell, and she had difficulty bending them. She was only in the 60s then, but yet her movement were hampered by the pain and discomfort of this disability severely impacted her quality of life. She became disheartened. When she had the pain, even simple things like buttoning, cooking and opening doors became a challenge.Worse of all the pain caused her mental frame of mind to be demotivated and her jest for life was affected. She didn’t feel like doing anything. I felt for her very much.I chanced upon this product called Olivenol livin, recommended by my neighbourhood pharmacist. She told me that my mum’s symptoms sounds like rheumatoid arthirits and ask me to consider trying this product. Since this is a natural product made out of olives, I did not hesitate to get it for mum. Anything for her to ease that pain and regain her quality of life.
After 2- 3 weeks of consuming Olivenol, she started to notice that her pain is almost gone. Her fingers were much more flexible and she could bend them with no discomfort. It sounds unbelievable, but it’s true. The persistent pain was gone! Mum has been taking Olivenol for almost a year now, and is so happy that the pain hasn’t come back once since the day she started her first bottle of Olivenol livin. The added bonus is her hair has become bouncier, and healthier looking too!
Thank you so much for giving mum this gift of a pain free life. The days where she sits at home, miserable and suffering in despair, are a thing of the past!

The Agony of Arthritis: Easing the Pain
My name is Liew Ming Siew, and I am 39 years old. I am a teacher by profession. I started having pains in my joints, especially my knees a few years ago, and went to consult an orthopedic surgeon at the general hospital where I lived. Based on my symptoms, the doctor suggested that my problem is more likely due to rheumatoid arthritis and area he is not equipped to address.
On the days that I have pain, I can’t do anything much. I can’t walk comfortably and have no motivation and interest to do much with my life. The only thing on my mind is how do I take away this pain? How can I lead a normal life? I am still so young. Frustration builds up and I felt like my life is no longer under my control. I live under a sentence of this debilitating pain.
I walked into a pharmacist one day, and out of desperation, I described my condition to him. He told me about this exciting product that just came out in the market – OLIVENOL livin’. At that time, the company was running a three months programme for consumers to experience the benefits of OLIVENOL with a fourth month consumption free from the company. In my mind, this company is fully confident of its product and it cares for its consumers. I did not hesitate to purchase my first pack. This was in October 2008. I am so happy to report that since I started taking Olivenol, not only has my pain lessen, I also experience less episodes of pain.
What makes this testimonial even more exciting is that my brother, Chit Sien (37 years old) also suffers from symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis. He has joint pains in his knuckles and knees. I recommended Olivenol to him and he now shares this same wonderful experience as me! He only started taking for a few months and the change has been so obvious. He, like me, has less episodes of pain and the pain has lessen as well.
Our utmost thanks and gratitude to OLIVENOL livin’ for giving us back the quality of life. We can now be productive and free from pain – all due to this wonderful product.
Our agony is over, our pain is eased!
