My hubby’s psoriasis on the face started with a few small patches when he took up his first job and worked overtime almost everyday. Workload, stress and improper meals and sleeping time has contributed to his condition getting serious. When he first noticed those patches, he treated them as skin sensitive and started to seek medical advise from the skin specialist but none actually helped and none of them ever tell him that it’s psoriasis.

Without knowing exactly his problem, he continue visiting one specialist to another and continue taking those oral medication and applying crèmes. To an extend he even had injections on the patches to reduce the redness. This continue for a few years and finally a doctor told him about psoriasis which lead to our research for further information. We found out that those prescribed medications and crèmes contains steroid which are harmful to the liver.

From then onwards, we start to look for alternatives and steroid free natural healings. He tried TCM (traditional Chinese medication) and Ayurvedic but none actually help to improve his condition. We have no other choice but have to seek medical advise from practicing skin specialist and was then recommended to Dr Allan Yee. SiewNai found Natural Healing for her Psoriasis

I suffer from Psoriasis since 1992. It just flared up after 3 days of high fever. Since then, i have to control the lesions with photoherapy and steroid cream. I even have to stop swimming because of the lesion. At first, i had to overcome the depression for not able to wear short sleeve clothings and not able to swim. I had to take some oral medication which was very unhealthy to my liver but I HAVE NO CHOICE. I even had scalded burnt from photothrapy treatment, blisters and skin tears. That really hurt so much and it was a phobia to me untill now.

In 2003, i was admitted to UH because of severe relapse due to viral infection. My whole body like balloon, skin angry looking and my both legs were swollen. I can’t sleep in flat position but only prone position. I had to receive intravenous antibiotics every 4 to 6 hours, that hurt!! My veins were traumatized due to the intravenous antibiotics. The funny part was every night, when the night nursing supervisor came to do her round, i could hear she ask the nurse “a, patient itu mati ke?”. I was in pain but i do smile too every night.

I hate and scare to have shower because when the water hit on my skin, i felt like some one is taking the sharp knife cutting my skin, torture me so much. I had Raptiva injection but when i stopped it, the rebound syndrome was bad. The lesions were not well controlled and did not reduce. 2009 November, i came to know about Olivenol from Nanyang news paper. I phoned the customer service to enquire about it.

I started taking OLIVENOL in December 2009. 4 months later, my lesions were reduced to 70%. The dermatologist did advise me to have TNF inhibitors injection but i said “NO THANKS DOC” because i have a better choice now. A choice which is NATURAL and that is what Olivenol is about. Story of a Mother's Love

My son 26 yrs old and having psoriasis since 3 yrs old, consulted lots of doctors and doctor said it is due to his ashthma. It started on his neck, elbow n knees. i feel so sad when seeing him scratching n damage his skin, and how he suffered and that effected his social life. whenever he went out, he was always in his long pants and shirts even in hot weather like malaysia. He was ashamed of people staring at his skin and even some people making fun of him and laughing at him too and that really effect his emotionally.physically and mentally. Due to this, he did not participate in any sports.Many people gives lots of advices, they even told him not to take seafood especially prawns, he really took care of his diet and food.

Lupus is categorised as an autoimmune disorder. Its symptoms, like in other autoimmune diseases, tend to flare up and recede.

Four types of lupus exist — systemic lupus erythematosus, discoid lupus erythematosus, drug-induced lupus erythematosus and neonatal lupus. Of these, systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is the most common and serious form of lupus. With treatment, most people with lupus can lead active lives.

Lupus affects major organs of the human body.

Direct data linking hydroxytyrosol (HT) and lupus is still insufficient to allow definitive conclusions. However, based on the what is available in hand and clinical proven results from other related disease eg: RA, and psoriasis, we see strong potential benefits.

So what is psoriasis?

Psoriasis is an unceasing skin condition in which patches of skin anywhere on your body become red, flaky, scaly, and itchy. Between 1% and 3% of people in the world suffer from psoriasis. The most common type of psoriasis is called chronic plaque psoriasis.

The normal skin cell life cycle is about 30 days, whereas in a person who has a psoriasis, the skin cell life cycle is only 3 to 6 days! This is because the T-cells (a type of white blood cell, integral part of the immune system) attack the skin cells, causing them to develop at a much faster rate. This excess skin has nowhere to go but to the surface, resulting in the scaly rash-like appearance on the skin.

So what is a good scalp psoriasis treatment?

Gels, lotions, and other solutions are good to use a scalp psoriasis treatment, since they are easier to apply to affected areas than ointments and creams. Ointments and creams tend to leave an oily appearance to and are harder to wash out of the hair too, so try to stay away from them.

Doctors will often prescribe a steroid based gel as a scalp psoriasis treatment. These work well; however, the effect of steroids on the skin tends to wear off through excessive use, so you should stay away from steroids as well.

SUFFERERS of lupus, eczema, psoriasis, allergy dermatitis, psoriatic arthritis, and rheumatoid arthritis (RA) have different, yet related, conditions. This article will explain how diseases that are so different share a common thread.

In order to do this, you need to understand the origin of these diseases.

Each is a chronic disease that manifests as inflammation of a particular organ. Treatment of these diseases is typically focused on relieving the symptoms of the affected organs, e.g. skin and joints.

It may surprise some of you to learn that the symptoms of skin rash, skin plaques, skin lesion, inflamed joints, and frozen shoulders are actually related and have something in common.

Psoriasis is thought to be an autoimmune disorder.

Each of the diseases listed occurs as a result of hypersensitivity of the human immune system to external substances (allergies, dermatitis, and eczema) or reaction to normal body tissues (psoriasis, lupus, and RA).

What is the immune system?

The immune system is the body’s means of protecting itself against microorganisms and other “foreign” substances. One component, B lymphocytes, produces antibodies that attack “foreign” substances and remove them from the body.

Another component consists of special white blood cells called T lymphocytes, which can attack “foreign” substances directly.

Over a person’s lifetime, his immune system develops an extensive library of identified substances and microorganisms that are catalogued as “threat” or “non-threat.”

Normally, the immune system will only attack those tissues that it recognises as a “threat.” However this natural programming of what is a threat and what is not sometimes breaks down. In allergies or eczema, the immune system reacts to an external substance that it normally would ignore.

In the case of psoriasis, lupus, and RA, the immune system reacts negatively to substances within the body. Again, the immune system is unable to differentiate between healthy body tissues and antigens, resulting in inflammatory reactions in critical organs such as skin and joints. When the body attacks itself, this is classified as an autoimmune disorder.

An autoimmune disorder may result in:

● The destruction of one or more types of body tissue (eg arthritic joints are destroyed)

● Abnormal growth of an organ (eg psoriasis skin plaques)

● Changes in organ function (eg lupus causing lung and heart disorders)

This happens when something confuses the immune system. Increasingly, that “something” appears to be the enormous load of environmental toxins to which we are all exposed. Environmental toxins are chemicals and other materials created largely from industry. These chemicals have saturated our water, food, and the very air we breathe. You can’t see, feel, or smell many toxins – at least, not right away.

Yet while psoriasis symptoms may be on the skin, psoriasis is no superficial condition. Psoriasis can have a devastating effect on every aspect of a person’s life. It can affect your relationships, your sense of self, your romantic life, your job, and your finances.

Despite all the suffering, too many people living with psoriasis aren’t getting help. Living with psoriasis can be tough — not just for the person with the diagnosis, but for his or her loved ones too. It’s a condition that can affect entire families, both emotionally and sometimes financially.

If you have a friend or family member with psoriasis, you may want to help but don’t know where to start.

Here are some useful tips.

• Learn about the psoriasis. Start with the basics. If you have a loved one living with psoriasis, it’s important that you really know about it — the symptoms, the causes, and psoriasis treatments.
• Ask loved ones with psoriasis what they need. Don’t make assumptions about what sort of help psoriasis patients want. Ask. Do they need someone to tag along to doctors’ appointments or help evaluate treatment options? Do they want someone who will listen? Or just someone who will make them laugh — and not mention the word “psoriasis” once?
• Encourage your loved one to get psoriasis treatment. Lots of people living with psoriasis get frustrated with treatments that haven’t worked and give up completely. While that’s understandable, it’s not a good idea. The vast majority of cases can be controlled. So if your loved one has stopped seeing a doctor, urge him or her to try again — perhaps with a new dermatologist who has expertise in treating the condition.
• Be positive, but not pushy. Lots of people living with psoriasis start to pull back from life, to isolate themselves. If you can, try to intervene. Encourage your loved one to stay connected with friends and do the things that he or she enjoys. But do it gently. If you try to force your loved one into doing things he or she is not ready to do, that person could just become anxious and upset.
• Reduce stress around the household. Stress is a known trigger for psoriasis. Obviously, no one’s home can ever be stress-free. But talk to your loved one about things you could do to lower his or her stress level.Maybe swapping some responsibilities or allowing that person to have extra time to rest could be a good way of offering psoriasis support.
• Treat signs of depression seriously. Depression and psoriasis can go together. One study showed that one out of four people living with psoriasis were also depressed. Since depression is a serious illness, don’t ignore any signs — like persistent sadness or loss of interest in daily activities. Encourage your loved one to see a doctor or a therapist as soon as possible.
• Don’t take on too much. Obviously, your loved one needs your help and support right now. But if your loved one is an adult, you shouldn’t take on all the responsibility yourself. If you take charge of every aspect of that person’s life and treatment, you’ll wind up worn out and resented. Remember, your job isn’t to take care of your loved one; it’s to help that person take care of himself.
• Take care of yourself. Caring for someone with a debilitating condition can be draining. It’s important that you maintain your own life too, something distinct for yourself. If your loved one has become more reclusive, you still need to stay connected. Take time to go out with friends and do things you like to do. If you start to feel overburdened, ask other friends or family members to pitch in. And if you’re getting seriously overwhelmed, check in with a therapist. Running yourself ragged won’t help either you or your loved one in the long-term.

OLIVENOL livin’ – Living with Psoriasis – Blog Project.

Closer to home, you can catch a glimpse into the lives of 10 psoriasis sufferers who are keeping a journal of their daily life on blogs. They represent the 2% of Malaysians who suffer from psoriasis whose voices are not often heard until now. Through these blogs, you can read about their struggles, challenges, emotions, interests, hopes and dreams and frustration of having to live with a disease that is not well understood by many.

Triniaire Sdn Bhd, the Malaysian distributor of OLIVENOL livin’ has embarked on this ambitious programme to publicly document the effectiveness OLIVENOL livin’ on volunteer psoriasis sufferers.
