Could Hydroxytyrosol the Olive Polyphenol Reduce the Effects of Lupus?

Lupus erythematosus is a connective tissue disease. Lupus is a chronic inflammatory disease that occurs when the body’s immune system attacks its own tissues and organs. Inflammation caused by lupus can affect many different body systems, including joints, skin, kidneys, blood cells, heart, and lungs. Lupus occurs more frequently in women than men, though the reasons for this are unknown.

Lupus is categorised as an autoimmune disorder. Its symptoms, like in other autoimmune diseases, tend to flare up and recede.

Four types of lupus exist — systemic lupus erythematosus, discoid lupus erythematosus, drug-induced lupus erythematosus and neonatal lupus. Of these, systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is the most common and serious form of lupus. With treatment, most people with lupus can lead active lives.

Lupus affects major organs of the human body.

Direct data linking hydroxytyrosol (HT) and lupus is still insufficient to allow definitive conclusions. However, based on the what is available in hand and clinical proven results from other related disease eg: RA, and psoriasis, we see strong potential benefits.

Lupus therapy has two goals:

  • The first objective is to *reduce_the_symptoms* during the flares.
  • Secondly, treatment is aimed at *extending_the_periods_of_remission* as long as possible.

1) REDUCE SYMPTOMS

  • OLIVENOL’s anti-inflammatory properties reduce pain in affected arthritic joints and reduce plaques and lesions on skin of psoriasis sufferer.
  • There is also anti-UV protection that is required since UV light can aggravate the lupus skin rash.

2) EXTEND REMISSION

The underlying cause of lupus is a antibody production leading to immune complex (IC) formation. However, the origin and trigger of this excessive production of antibody is an immune system that is “out of sync”. Recent studies have shown that immune system that sends out spurious messages can be re-modulated by dietary antioxidant.

Maintaining adequate antioxidant status may provide a useful approach in reducing cell injury and dysfunction observed in some autoimmune disorders. [De la Fuente M: Effects of antioxidants on immune system ageing. Eur J Clin Nutr 2002, 56(Suppl 3):5-8.]

Olive polyphenol HT, the active ingredient in OLIVENOL livin’ is the most potent natural anti-oxidant known to man.  We believe it is HT’s effective remodulation of the immune system that give rise to the efficacy of the product.

SLE sufferers with symptoms similar to arthritis and psoriasis is likely to benefit from the same mechanism.

Treating Psoriasis on Your Scalp

If you suffer from psoriasis, I’m sure you would completely agree with me when I say that psoriasis stinks! The red dry skin, itching, and flaking are not pleasant to deal with on a daily basis, especially if the psoriasis is in a visible part of your body like your scalp. Luckily, there are a few types of scalp psoriasis treatment available. There are also a few types of all natural scalp psoriasis treatment available. On this page, we will discuss some alternatives so you can choose a good scalp psoriasis treatment. First, though, it is important that you know exactly what psoriasis is and what causes it.

So what is psoriasis?

Psoriasis is an unceasing skin condition in which patches of skin anywhere on your body become red, flaky, scaly, and itchy. Between 1% and 3% of people in the world suffer from psoriasis. The most common type of psoriasis is called chronic plaque psoriasis.

The normal skin cell life cycle is about 30 days, whereas in a person who has a psoriasis, the skin cell life cycle is only 3 to 6 days! This is because the T-cells (a type of white blood cell, integral part of the immune system) attack the skin cells, causing them to develop at a much faster rate. This excess skin has nowhere to go but to the surface, resulting in the scaly rash-like appearance on the skin.

So what is a good scalp psoriasis treatment?

Gels, lotions, and other solutions are good to use a scalp psoriasis treatment, since they are easier to apply to affected areas than ointments and creams. Ointments and creams tend to leave an oily appearance to and are harder to wash out of the hair too, so try to stay away from them.

Doctors will often prescribe a steroid based gel as a scalp psoriasis treatment. These work well; however, the effect of steroids on the skin tends to wear off through excessive use, so you should stay away from steroids as well.

Doctors may also prescribe some sort of pills or injections as a scalp psoriasis treatment, but if you have ever tried these, you would know that they are not cheap, they do not work 100% of the time, and they often have negative side-effects. But give them a try, as they may work for you.

Treating your scalp psoriasis with hydroxytyrosol – an olive polyphenol.

Recent discovery suggested that there is another way to treat scalp psoriasis. It does not involve the use of any gel, ointment or cream on the scalp. Instead, it address the problem from your internal system. By sticking to a regular supplementation of hydroxytyrosol – a natural polyphenol from olive – dramatic improvements can be seen. Treating Arthritis: OTC Supplements vs Prescription Medications

The Agony of Arthritis:  OTC Supplements vs Prescription Medications

A survey conducted by Caravan Opinion Research among Orthopaedic Surgeons in the US shows they view “over-the-counter” (OTC) supplements as an effective alternative to prescription medications.

These specialists say an over-the-counter (OTC) treatment can be an effective alternative to prescription medication. According to new survey results unveiled of more than 250 orthopedic surgeons, 70 percent of those surveyed say they recommend OTCs most often as a first line treatment option to their patients with minor arthritis pain.

The survey was conducted to measure how recent news about the safety of pain relievers has affected the way orthopedic surgeons recommend medications for minor arthritis pain.

Orthopedic surgeons are specialists in the treatment of bone and joint disorders, including arthritis. The survey is a collaborative effort by colleagues at Florida Hospital, David D. Dore, M.D., Medical Director of The Joint Replacement Center at Celebration Health and James Rippe, M.D. of the hospital’s Rippe Lifestyle Institute.

“Given all the recent negative news, I think physicians are being more cautious about using prescription pain relievers that may increase their patients’ risk for serious health issues,” said Dr. Dore. Almost all (90 percent) specialists surveyed report that they have decreased their use of COX-2 prescription medications and increased their use of OTCs.

Among this group, 91 percent named easy dosing with fewer pills as a top reason they believe Aleve to be the most effective OTC pain medication while 81 percent named long-lasting relief as a top reason.

“I always tell my patients to start with an OTC medication and the results of the survey show that most orthopedic surgeons seem to agree,” said Dr. Rippe. “Furthermore, I think you’d find similar results among other specialists who treat people with arthritis. No matter what their specialty, doctors are looking for the same thing when recommending pain medication — efficacy and safety. Over-the-counter pain medications offer both.”

Significant Survey Findings

* Nearly all – 82 percent – of orthopaedic surgeons polled report that recent news about pain relievers has had an effect on the way they recommend pain medication for minor arthritis pain

* Based on experience, 97 percent of orthopaedic surgeons surveyed believe OTCs can be an effective alternative to prescription medication to treat minor arthritis pain

The Situation in Malaysia

Recent development shows that the situation in Malaysia is moving in the same direction. Orthopaedic Surgeons and Rheumatologist have started to recommend OTCs supplementation as a first line alternative treatment for the same reasons.

OLIVENOL livin’, a patented extract from olive juice has established itself as one of the top OTC product used in the treatment of arthritis in several private hospitals in Malaysia. OLIVENOL is one of the few natural OTC supplement with strong clinical findings demonstrating its efficacy in relieving arthritic pain and increasing mobility of affected joints.

In 2005, the Arizona State University conducted a clinical trial to evaluate the effects of OLIVENOL™ on 100 patients aged from 55 to 75 years, suffering from Osteoarthritis (OA) & Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA). The trial employed a double blind placebo protocol where patients we not aware of what they were consuming.

The summary findings showed OLIVENOL™ made significant improvement in relieving pain, reducing inflammation and improving movement, as reported by both patient and physician.   Click to download the full published report from  >> HERE <<

Discuss With Your Doctor

The next time you consult your orthopaedic surgeon or rheumatologist, ask him about OLIVENOL as alternative treatment to your conditions. There is a growing group of medical specialists in Malaysia who are using OTC supplementation such as OLIVENOL™ livin’  as treatment for their arthritis patients. Both patients and doctors are happy with the results on this decision.
