When Glucosamine and Chondroitin Does Not Work for You…
In the past week since we reported the story of Mr and Mrs Chan in this article, we received hundreds of emails and phone calls from arthritic sufferers with a common theme of enquiry.
Majority of you were diagnosed RA and OA sufferers and have relied on the prevalent supplementation of glucosamine-chondroitin for pain relief. Your collective experience were that your supplementation regime even at the highest dosage of 1500mg glucosamine and 1200 chondroitin daily provided little or no relieve to your pain. Could OLIVENOL livin serve as an effective replacement for your current treatment, you wanted to know.
Before we answer this question, I wish to draw your attention to 2 recent publications which may shed some light on the efficacy (or lack thereof) of glucosamine-chondroitin therapy (GCT) for arthritis.
Study 1: Daniel O. Clegg, Domenic J. Reda, et.al., “Glucosamine, Chondroitin Sulfate, and the Two in Combination for Painful Knee Osteoarthritis“, The New England Journal of Medicine, February 23, 2006, Volume 354:795-808, Number 8.
The link to the publication can be found here http://content.nejm.org/cgi/content/abstract/354/8/795
Glucosamine and chondroitin sulfate are used to treat osteoarthritis. The multicenter, double-blind, placebo- and celecoxib-controlled Glucosamine/chondroitin Arthritis Intervention Trial (GAIT) evaluated their efficacy and safety as a treatment for knee pain from osteoarthritis. It involved 1583 patients one of the largest study of this kind.
I quote the conclusion from this study:
Glucosamine and chondroitin sulfate alone or in combination did not reduce pain effectively in the overall group of patients with osteoarthritis of the knee. Exploratory analyses suggest that the combination of glucosamine and chondroitin sulfate may be effective in the subgroup of patients with moderate-to-severe knee pain. (ClinicalTrials.gov number, NCT00032890 [ClinicalTrials.gov] .)
Study 2: R.M. Rozendaal, B.W. Koes, et.al., “Effect of Glucosamine Sulfate on Hip Osteoarthritis. A Randomized Trial.” Annals of Internal Medicine, Feb 2008, (volume 148, pages 268-277).
The link to this second study can be found here: http://www.annals.org/cgi/content/summary/148/4/268
The second study examined 222 patients with hip arthritis receiving either 1500 mg of glucosamine sulfate or a placebo pill daily for 2 years.
The conclusion made by the examiners, I quote:
Pain, ability to do normal activities, and joint space narrowing did not differ between patients who received glucosamine and those who received placebo.

Why Doesn’t GCT Work For Me?
To understand why GCT does work for everyone, you need to first understand the principle behind GCT. Glucosamine is supposed to be effective to promote regeneration of damaged cartilage in human joints. Glucosamine is a natural compound that is found in healthy cartilage. Glucosamine sulfate is a normal constituent of glycoaminoglycans in cartilage matrix and synovial fluid, according to the Mayo Clinic. Doctors widely prescribe it for patients hoping to slow or prevent cartilage loss.
However, cartilage regeneration can only occur if the patient has sufficient cartilage to promote regeneration. Little of no regeneration will take place for those above 60 years of age, where cell/tissue regeneration is typically retarded due to aging.

Understanding How OLIVENOL livin’ Works
Unlike GCT, the OLIVENOL livin’ delivers efficacy in a different way. OLIVENOL livin’ is a cost effective class of phenolics that acts as biologic response modifier. Its active ingredient, Hydroxytyrosol, reduces hs-CRP, CRP and acts as a non-toxic agent to inhibit pro-inflammatory cytokines.
There is a wide body of medical publication of studies and control trials showing evidence that OLIVENOL livin’ is effective treatment for indications associated with RA and OA.
For Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA)
The source of pain in RA patients does not come from damaged tissues such as cartilage. Instead, pain arises from inflammatory attacks at mobile joints such as knees, lower back, neck, shoulders and elbows. GCT is therefore worthless to RA patients. OLIVENOL livin’ on the other hand, is effective to regulate immune system signaling reducing frequency and severity of attacks.
For Osteoarthritis (OA)
For OA patients, the blocking of inflammation episodes is one immediate benefit from OLIVENOL livin. Adding OLIVENOL livin to the regular GCT has been found to promote synergistic bio chemistry in the body that promotes cartilage regeneration.
In 2005, the Arizona State University conducted a clinical trial to evaluate the effects of OLIVENOL™ livin’ on 100 patients aged from 55 to 75 years, suffering from Osteoarthritis (OA) & Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA). The trial employed a double blind placebo protocol where patients were not aware of what they were consuming.
The summary findings showed OLIVENOL™ livin made significant improvement in relieving pain, reducing inflammation and improving movement, as reported by both patient and physician. Click to download the full published report from >> HERE <<
When Glucosamine and Chondroitin Does Not Work For You.
As explained, recent large scale studies have cast doubt on the clinical efficacy of GCT for arthritis. If you are one of those who find your arthritic pain does not improve with glucosamine chondroitin supplementation, you now know that your experience is not unique. Thousands of other sufferers continue to suffer pain like you, despite trying the most expensive and “best and unique” formulation of Glucosamine Chondroitin.
Well, when glucosamine and chondroitin does not work for you.. there is always OLIVENOL livin!.

Dear Ivy/Fatin
SLE is debilitating condition. You appear to understand the risk involved in the conventional treatment (steroids, immune suppressant) used in treating SLE. Whilst OLIVENOL livin’ has been proven to be effective on many auto immune conditions RA, psoriasis, eczema, AS etc, we have less data on SLE.
However, we would like to have a conversation with you with regards to your case. Please email us your contact details (phone) to olivenol@triniaire.com
Looking forward to hear from you.

Dear Evelyn
Based on clinical research on hand and the experience of many like you, it is likely that OLIVENOL livin’ will help with relieving your RA symptoms. RA is an autoimmune condition that is brought about pro-inflammatory genes expression that result in chronic stiffness and pain in joints. The anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant action of OLIVENOL livin’ block these menacing genes from doing damage.
OLIVENOL livin is safe for anyone from 1 year old (baby) onwards. In our company every staff and their family members takes OLIVENOL livin. The youngest is 2 years old and the oldest person is 77 years old. Each of us take it for the benefits that is relevant to our respective self. Here is a summary:
2 year old takes it to clear his eczema (antioxidant, anti-inflammatory)
6 year old takes it for general immunity (does not fall sick that often) (antioxidant)
14 year old takes it for psoriasis (antioxidant, anti-inflammatory)
25 year old takes it to clear her dandruff (better scalp/skin) (antioxidant, anti inflammation)
35 year old takes it to clear her pimples (antibacterial)
44 year old takes it for better skin and nasal allergy (antioxidant)
45 year old takes it to lower cholesterol and reduce cardio vascular risk (antioxidant, anti inflammatory)
65 year old takes it to counter arthritic symptoms (anti inflammatory, antioxidant)
70 year old takes it for better skin and better nails (anti aging, anti UV damage)
77 year old takes it to overcome fatigue and lethargy due to diabetes. (improve energy level)
Each one listed above is an individual from the family of employees in our company. If you have any doubt, I suggest you visit a pharmacist and obtain their advice and confirmation. They have experience dispensing OLIVENOL livin for the past year.
Based on the description of your condition, the dosage of 2 capsules / day is sufficient for you.

Dear Linda, I suspect you already know what advise we will give you.
The first thing you must do is to STOP peeling that scab. Peeling and scratching will only perpetuate your problem. The irritation will trigger another bout of inflammation. Given the history of that localised spot on your scalp, any inflammation will cause even MORE skin to form and create a even thicker scab.
Does OLIVENOL livin’ work on an old scab like yours? The honest answer is “We do not know!”. Promising you that it will work would be dishonest as we do not have data to support such a claim.
We do however know that OLIVENOL livin is exceptionally good on modulating your immune system from inflammatory episodes. So in this respect, it may help retard the re-scabbing of the affected spot. Further to that, we know that OLIVENOL livin is effective on dry skin, promoting moisture retention and closing pores. A combination of these positive effect on your skin may also accelerate the healing of that scab.
If you decide to use OLIVENOL livin to solve that scab problem, we recommend you purchase the LIQUID. (We recommend LIQUID for all skin related conditions).
Come back and share your experience with us.
Thanks.

Dear Mr Chua
The symptoms you describe fits that of a typical Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) sufferer. RA is an auto-immune condition that leads to inflammation of joints that results in pain and stiffness.
OLIVENOL livin’ is clinically proven to be effective to reduce symptoms of RA. Kindly refer to the two published studies in this area.

Specifically to your question on long term consumption:
OLIVENOL livin’ is 100% natural extract organic olive juice extract without any chemical or drug additives. It has US-FDA GRAS certification as “food grade”. This makes OLIVENOL livin, safer than any drugs and supplements. The product is suitable for long term consumption.
In all the safety studies performed for US-FDA GRAS certification, there was no discovery of adverse effect.
On the benefits side, you can expect OLIVENOL livin’ to:
1) reduce cardiovascular risk (lower cholesterol, lower BP, reduce oxidative stress on LDL)
2) improve skin conditions
3) high anti-oxidant potency to lower risk of cancer
4) reduce inflammation of joints, skin and organs
These benefits are clinically proven with published research.
OLIVENOL livin’ was launched in Malaysia at the Prince Court Medical Centre in April 2008. It is available from any one of these hospitals, clinics and pharmacies listed on this webpage: http://www.olivenol-livin.com.my/get-it-here/
The standard retail price of our 2 products are:
OLIVENOL livin’ Capsule (50s) – RM 169
OLIVENOL livin’ Liquid (60ml) – RM 189
Dosage equivalence is 1 cap = 1 ml
We recommend you take 2 caps (or 2 ml) per day for your RA symptoms. We are confident you will experience the benefits that has been discovered by thousands of Malaysian since the product was introduced 15 months ago.

Hi Dina, the sound you hear is likely to emanate from friction of joints as a result of wear and tear . Depending on your age GCT may or may not be effective. Please email us olivenol @ triniaire.com if you wish to discuss the various options you may consider.

I have faithfully taken Move Free (1500 mg Glucosanmine Hydrochloride and 200 mg Chondroitin Sulfate) every day for 3 years. It has done nothing for my injured left knee. I’ve always felt pain. Now, it’s time for a knee replacement. I wish I’d never bothered to take Move Free.
